Charlton Athletic have slapped a £2m price tag on German defender Patrick Bauer, amidst reported interest from recently-promoted Blackburn Rovers.

The 6ft 4in centre-back  made 37 appearances for the Addicks last season, helping them reach the League One play-offs.  He has a year left on his contract at The Valley and is likely to be a significant figure in Lee Bowyer's side next season.

“We’re not the only team where if players do well then other clubs become interested,” Bowyer told South London Press. “It is just a fact of football."

“Patrick has done well. But the owner has put a price tag and it is whether a team is prepared to pay that. I can’t answer that. Patrick has had a good season and that has brought interest in him, which is understandable.”

Bauer joined Charlton in 2015 from Portuguese side Maritimo after emerging from the youth ranks of VFB Stuttgart. He represented Germany up to U20 level and has played 96 times for the Addicks.

The Verdict

Bauer is a giant defender and there's no reason why Charlton should want to sell him on the cheap. If Blackburn want him then they'll have to pay and £2m would go a long way to strengthening Charlton's squad, if they were canny in the market. They're in a win / win situation, although with one year left on his deal they might be mindful of making good whilst they still can.
