Charlton Athletic will be aiming for a better 2017/18 campaign after two disappointing seasons in a row.

The Addicks were relegated from the Championship and had hoped to mount a promotion challenge this season.

However, they struggled to make much of an impact in the second tier and their campaign has been shadowed by underachievement on the field and ownership problems off the field.

Charlton will be aiming for a much-improved season next term after finishing in a disappointing 13th place at the end of the current campaign.

Karl Robinson is keen to add a number of new signings this summer and one position he desperately needs to address is his goalkeeper.

Declan Rudd was the number one stopper for Charlton last season and was very impressive between the sticks.

Robinson wanted to snap up Rudd on a permanent deal but he now looks set to return to Norwich and stay with the Canaries after signing a contract extension at Carrow Road.

Inexperienced youngster Dillon Phillips is now the only senior goalkeeper in Charlton's ranks.

With at least one new 'keeper needed as a priority before the start of next season, Robinson should try to swoop for free agent Jon McLaughlin.

The Scotsman was recently released by Burton Albion and he will be available on a free transfer.

McLaughlin is a talented goalkeeper who is comfortable with shot stopping and with claiming crosses.

The 29-year-old has plenty of experience at League One level, having played well over 250 games combined during his time with Bradford and Burton.

McLaughlin played a big part in keeping the Brewers up this season with his 43 appearances between the sticks and he'd be an excellent free addition to Charlton's ranks.
