Charlton Athletic have had a poor start to the season by their own admission.

Manager Russell Slade was sacked after just 16 games; there has been some lacklustre performances on the pitch; there have been protests off the pitch and the managerless club sit in 14th place with only 5 wins in 17 games.

There will be no doubt that Charlton wish to turn things around this season and make a late surge for the promotion spots and this is not out of the equation yet.

Things need to change though and the upcoming January window will give a good indication of where Charlton will finish come the end of the season in May.

It's difficult to get value for money in the winter window so Charlton's best bet is to search for loan deals.

Here are four suggestions of players that Charlton could temporarily poach from clubs based in London when the January window opens.

Olamide Shodipo

Olamide Shodipo has burst onto the scene at QPR this season with seven Championship appearances to his name thus far.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international is a rapid winger who would be an ideal replacement for Ademola Lookman, should Charlton's prize asset leave for the Premier League in January.

The 19-year-old was used as a second-half substitute against Norwich in Ian Holloway's first game back with QPR but he might sanction a loan move for his talented teenager to be playing every week.

Cameron Carter-Vickers

Charlton could do with some reinforcements at the back and Cameron Carter-Vickers would be a perfect addition.

The 18-year-old is highly rated by the powers that be at Tottenham but he is not quite ready for Premier League football so a learning experience in League One would be beneficial for all three parties.

Charlton could target the USA under-23 international as a composed, ball-playing defender with a talent for tackling.

Djair Parfitt-Williams

West Ham prodigy Djair Parfitt-Williams has been a standout performer in under-23 football for the past couple of seasons but he really needs some senior game time to develop him as a player.

The Bermudan forward joined West Ham on the recommendation of fellow countryman and former Hammer Clyde Best when he was scouting in America.

The winger might be small but he's quick, skillful and has a real eye for goal and he would thrive at The Valley.

Hiram Boateng

Hiram Boateng is currently on loan at Bristol Rovers from Crystal Palace but that deal expires in early January so he might be available for Charlton to poach.

The central midfielder has featured 10 times for Bristol Rovers after impressing during his 27-game stint at Plymouth in League Two last year.

The 20-year-old is certainly regarded as a future first team player by Crystal Palace and a local move to a League One club like Charlton would certainly do his development no harm.
