After a disappointing thirteenth placed finish, Karl Robinson will be hoping that Charlton Athletic can build on the momentum gained towards the end of the season.

The Addicks finished the season with a five-match unbeaten run which included four wins and just a single draw against already relegated Coventry City.

However, despite the upturn in form, the south London side still finished thirteen points behind sixth-placed Millwall. Whilst the expectations for many was that Charlton Athletic would be competing for promotion, this season, they failed to live up to the hype.

The summer transfer window could prove crucial for Karl Robinson and Charlton Athletic if the Addicks are to be a force to be reckoned with in League 1 next season.

With Josh MaGannesis, Ricky Holmes and Nicky Ajose all hitting double figures, Karl Robinson may look to add even further to his already potent attacking options.

One player who could add further quality and variety to Charlton's attack is Conor McAleny. The 24-year-old striker is currently unattached after leaving Everton following the expiration of his contract at the Premier League club.

Last season, McAleny was a standout performer in an impressive Oxford United outfit. He scored ten times in eighteen appearances during his loan stint with the League 1 side.

Now that McAleny is available as a free agent, a number of League 1 sides including Oxford United will surely be hoping to acquire the services of the former Evertonian.

However, having previously spent a short loan spell at The Valley and the resources that Karl Robinson has at his disposal, Charlton Athletic may have the edge on their League 1 rivals and could be Conor McAleny's next destination.

Charlton fans, would you like to see Conor McAleny return to The Valley? Do you think he would fit into Karl Robinson's system? How would he compare to your current striking options? Let us hear your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below!
