Blackburn Rovers are keeping tabs on Charlton's 6ft 3in defender Patrick Bauer as his Addicks contract edges closer to expiry, as reported by the Lancashire Telegraph.

The 26-year-old is one of a number of Charlton stars yet to pen a new deal, despite the prospect of Championship football next season via the play-offs.

Lee Bowyer's side are nine points clear in the top six, seemingly set for a two-legged showdown prior to a potential Wembley date, but Bauer has yet to commit his future to the club and looks increasingly unlikely to do so.

Since joining from Portuguese side Maritimo, he's racked up 114 starts for the Addicks, scoring eight times.

He emerged as a target for Rovers in the summer, but remained at the Valley despite intense speculation.

Blackburn have the fourth worst defence in the Championship as it stands and it's believed Tony Mowbray is keen to strengthen.

With Bauer possibly available on a free transfer, it would seem highly likely that Rovers reignite their interest this summer.

Rovers have conceded 60 goals this season, only Rotherham, Bolton and Ipswich have conceded more. They're currently 17th in the table, 11 points clear of the bottom three.

The Verdict

It would be a huge blow to Charlton to lose Bauer, but it's almost inevitable.

He's been superb for them, playing 29 times this season, but is seemingly set for football at a higher level.

If they do negotiate the play-offs and earn a promotion, maybe he'll commit his future to the club, but if not he's sure to make the move.
