Charlton Athletic are close to agreeing new deals for three of their backroom staff, following manager Lee Bowyer's decision to sign a one-year contract extension, according to talkSPORT.

Assistant manager Johnnie Jackson, goalkeeper coach Andy Marshall and head of recruitment Steve Gallen are all ready to commit their futures to the club, with their improved deals expected to be finalised in the near future.

Bowyer had been in talks with Charlton over a new contract for months and the club announced on Monday evening that talks had broken down, with the club reluctant to give him a long-term deal and a big wage increase.

However, Charlton confirmed on Tuesday morning that Bowyer has changed his mind and signed a one-year contract extension.

Bowyer was able to guide Charlton to promotion to the Championship in his first full season as a manager last term, as the Addicks beat Sunderland 2-1 in the League One play-off final at Wembley last month.

He first took charge of Charlton on a caretaker basis in March 2018, following the departure of Karl Robinson and was able to guide the club to the League One play-off semi-finals, where they lost to Shrewsbury Town.

The former midfielder continued as caretaker manager at the start of last season, before signing a deal until the end of the season.

The Verdict

This is more good news for Charlton. Obviously the most important thing is that Bowyer has signed a contract extension, as keeping him at the club was instrumental to their chances of success next season.

However, Jackson, Marshall and Gallen have all played a vital role in the club's recent success and it's very encouraging to see them commit their futures to the club.

The three are all eager to follow in Bowyer's footsteps and it shows how much they enjoy working with the manager and how much of an influence he has behind the scenes.
