Charlton secure deal for 29-year-old attacking midfielder

Charlton Athletic have signed Northampton Town star Ricky Holmes, their official website has confirmed.

Holmes was superb last season for Northampton as they romped to the League Two title under Chris Wilder, who has since left the club to sign a deal with Sheffield United.

Many thought Wilder would make a move for Holmes himself, however, Holmes has now signed for the Addicks and will link up with Russell Slade to try and get the club back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

Holmes made his name with Barnet and then Portsmouth, after starting his career in the non-league with Chelmsford. A loan move from Pompey to Northampton led to a permanent transfer in 2015, however his stay at the Cobblers has proved a short one.

Charlton have looked to add attacking talent to their ranks and Holmes is the first of what they hope will be many signings over the summer as Russell Slade looks to put his stamp on the team.

The fee for Holmes has been declared as undisclosed.

Addicks fans, what do you think to this news? Good signing? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!!!
