Charlton Athletic have ruled out the signing of defender Florentin Pogba, with just a few days of the January transfer window left.

Richard Cawley of the South London Press is reporting that the Addicks had never had any intention of signing the 29-year-old, who has been without a club since the start of November.

Pogba has 21 international caps for Guinea during his career, having featured for the France youth teams during his junior years.

The experienced defender is well-travelled across the globe, having progressed through the youth ranks at Celta Vigo and Sedan, becoming a regular in the defence at the latter.

In 2012, he moved to Saint Etienne with a loan spell at former club Sedan in 2013, before joining Turkish side Genclerbirligi in 2018 on a short-term contract.

A move across to the MLS beckoned in 2019, as he pulled on the shirt of Atlanta United for a few months before departing the club.

Charlton are yet to do anything of note in the transfer window, with no new signings having come through the door and Conor Gallagher having been recalled by Chelsea, before being sent to Swansea City on loan.

The Verdict

Pogba has been without a club for a few months and is clearly attempting to keep up his fitness while at Charlton.

He could have been a good addition to Lee Bowyer's ranks as cover at the back, however Bowyer has determined that he is happy with the defensive options he currently has at The Valley as they look to maintain their spot in the Championship.
