Charlton plot move for 24-year-old on a free

Charlton Athletic are eyeing up a transfer for well sought after defender Tom Lockyer who will be leaving on a free this summer.

Tom Lockyer, 24, deal is running out this summer and is wanted by a host of clubs.

London News Online and the South London Press allegedly ‘understand’ that the Addicks are wanting the centre half – who can also play in defensive midfield – at The Valley next season.

Lockyer has played for Bristol Rovers since 2011 and has picked up five Wales caps since joining the club, despite never playing at a level higher than League One.

The Verdict

Baring in mind Charlton’s relative money issues, the signing of Tom Lockyer could be really good business.

Lockyer is ready for a step up after a great spell at Rovers and has earned a bigger move to a club in the Championship.

Charlton know all about him from their time in League One and would’ve been impressed with him in the past couple of seasons, who is now a Wales international.

With Lockyer being available on a free you can expect some Championship interest as well as some from the top of League One.

Lockyer will be wanting first team football to try and secure himself in Ryan Giggs’ Wales side, and I think that Charlton may be able to offer him that with with Patrick Bauer expected to leave the club on a free this summer.
