Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer has completed a loan move to join National League side Dover Athletic until the end of the season, the Whites have confirmed.

Maynard-Brewer has not made a senior appearance for the Addicks this season as a result of Dillon Phillips' continued form between the sticks, and the Australian has now joined Dover as they target a play-off bid during the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old has been named on Charlton's substitutes' bench in recent matches, while he made his debut for the club during an EFL Trophy clash last term, and he is now set to embark on his third loan spell since joining the Addicks.

Maynard-Brewer has previously spent time playing for Chelmsford City, Hampton & Richmond Borough and Dulwich Hamlet during his time as an Addick, and he will now be looking to gain further senior experience between now and May.

Phillips has played every minute of Charlton's mixed Championship campaign so far this season, with this keeping Maynard-Brewer out of the side, while Addicks boss Lee Bowyer can also turn to second-choice stopper Ben Amos if Phillips is absent.

The Verdict

This seems like a sensible move for all parties given Maynard-Brewer is not likely to be needed during the remainder of the season, with both Phillips and Amos capable of providing suitable options between the sticks for Bowyer.

Maynard-Brewer will now be able to continue his development with a side who will have play-off ambitions during the rest of the season, and this will provide valuable experience for the 20-year-old to get regular minutes.

It can only be assumed that Charlton have also included a recall option in the deal incase one of Phillips or Amos suffers an injury setback, with Bowyer having already indicated his trust in Maynard-Brewer by naming him on the bench previously.

The Addicks will now be hoping Maynard-Brewer can further improve his game while on loan at Dover, and he may then be able to compete for a first-team spot at The Valley in the not-too-distant future.
