Charlton striker, Macauley Bonne, has expressed his amazement after scoring the winner against Leeds United on Saturday.

The forward netted his first goal for the club on the weekend, and he couldn't have picked a better time to do it.

The victory meant that Charlton were able to add Leeds to one of their Championship scalps, whilst they ensured that they moved back into the top six.

Bonne joined the Addicks from Leyton Orient in the summer and has waited patiently for his opportunity, he was as surprised as anyone to be starting the game on Saturday.

Speaking to London News Online, Bonne said: “I just checked on my Instagram and at the same time of last season I was playing against Braintree Town in the Conference.

“Now I’ve scored the winner against Leeds – I couldn’t write a better story. From where I have come from, I couldn’t tell you how happy I am.

“You get little ideas in the week and then Friday morning when he [manager Lee Bowyer] flipped the board I knew I was starting.

“I always thought I would get slowly moved in, like I did getting half an hour against Barnsley on my debut. To be thrown in against Leeds I knew I need to be a man here. I’m 23. I’ve got to establish myself in the Championship.”

The Verdict

It's been quite the story for the striker, and he'll be delighted to have helped Charlton record a victory over one of the promotion hopefuls.

It must be quite the success for himself and his family seeing Bonne score in the Championship when he was playing in the National League just last season.

He's part of a Charlton side that is really starting to surprise a few as they continue to impress in the division, who knows he could be apart of something even more special this season.
