Charlton midfielder Beram Kayal has provided an update on his injury recovery after undergoing successful surgery on a groin problem which has significantly hindered his time at the club.

Kayal arrived at The Valley on a season-long loan deal from Brighton over the summer, but injury problems have limited the midfielder to six appearances for the South London side so far, while he has now not featured since early November.

The 31-year-old has formed part of Charlton's major injury crisis in recent weeks which has forced manager Lee Bowyer to turn to the under-23 side to beef up his squad, but it now appears as though the Israel international is on the mend.

However, Kayal's future at the Addicks remains uncertain with the club considering the possibility of sending him back to Brighton - according to the Argus - and this would then allow them to sign a replacement this month.

Kayal has now taken to Instagram to declare his recent surgery was a success:

The Verdict

There was reason for much excitement when Kayal sealed his move to Charlton over the summer, but his injury problems have meant his time at the club has been extremely underwhelming.

It comes as good news that his recent surgery was successful, but this still means that he will be ruled out for some time, and the best move for Charlton would surely be to send the midfielder back to his parent club.

This would then enable Bowyer to sign another midfield option who is more capable of making an impact in the second half of the season, and this would be the best option for Charlton with regard to their survival hopes.
