Charlton Athletic failed to build on their impressive victory over Leeds United on the weekend as they slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Swansea City at The Valley on Wednesday night.

Jonathan Leko had put the hosts in front after just two minutes but Yan Dhanda and Andre Ayew then found the net either side of half-time to send Swansea to the Championship summit, while Charlton dropped to eighth.

This comes after Lee Bowyer's side worked their way into a play-off spot over the weekend following their 1-0 victory over promotion-chasing Leeds, with Macauley Bonne netting in the first half for the Londoners.

Bowyer will now be looking for a response from his Addicks side when they make the short trip to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon, and Jason Pearce has now shared a determined message ahead of the match.

The defender will be hoping to maintain his place in the Charlton side as he played 90 minutes against Swansea after missing out of the starting line-up for the Leeds match four days earlier.

He took to Instagram following the Swansea defeat in which he already signalled the Charlton side are already looking ahead to Saturday:

Pearce has featured in eight of Charlton's 10 league matches this season after forming a key part of the side that secured promotion from League One last term.

The Verdict

Pearce is displaying the correct attitude in the wake of his side's defeat as they cannot afford to dwell on the result and must now look ahead to Saturday's important match.

The nature of the Championship's fixture scheduling means Charlton have been handed an extremely difficult week which has included matches against three sides who have made strong starts to the season.

It was always going to be hard for Charlton to follow up their victory over Leeds with a further two victories given the physically demanding nature of their display against Leeds.

Therefore, Charlton must now start looking ahead to the Fulham match immediately as a victory would give Charlton six points from their last three matches, and this would represent a very impressive return.
