It has been reported that Charlton Athletic are interested in signing former Manchester City goalkeeper Curtis Anderson, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The reporter provided the update via Twitter, which stated that the 19-year-old is currently a free agent, and is trialling with the south London club.

As stated in the above tweet, Anderson featured for Charlton's under-23 side on Monday afternoon at Princes Park as they drew 2-2 with Reading in the Under 23 Premier League cup.

The 19-year-old played the full ninety minutes for the young Addicks as they secured top spot their group.

Anderson joined Manchester City's academy at 11 years of age, and spent almost seven years at the club before leaving in March last year.

He most recently played for North American side Charlotte Independence before leaving the club by mutual agreement last summer.

Anderson was also part of England under-17's World Cup winning team back in 2017, and has represented his country from U16 to U19 level. His last cap for the under-19's came back in 2018.

Dillon Phillips, Ben Amos and Ashley Maynard-Brewer are currently the three first-team goalkeepers currently at the club, with the latter spending the rest of the reason on loan at National League side Dover Athletic.

The Verdict

As per Alan Nixon's update, it seems that Charlton are keen on keeping Anderson on the club's books, but nothing has been announced as of yet.

It could be a coup for the south London side, considering Anderson's pedigree in youth International football for England.

It will also give him a chance to develop his game further with Charlton's under-23 side if he decides to sign.
