It's been a nail-biting week for the fans of Charlton Athletic, as news surrounding the potential sacking of Stoke City manager Nathan Jones continues to swirl.

The reason why this news would concern Charlton fans is because their own manager, Lee Bowyer, is being linked to the post further north despite Jones still being in a job, something which could come across as surprising to many after Jones' resigned look of unemployment after Stoke's loss to Huddersfield Town.

Charlton fans now have even more cause for concern as it has been revealed by Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson that Jones could be sacked imminently and that former Brighton & Hove Albion manager Chris Hughton has already turned Stoke down as he holds out for a job in the Premier League, so perhaps the Potters are going to come calling.

If Jones is to depart the Bet365 Stadium anytime soon, then Bowyer could be in line to take over the reins, but any approach from Stoke could be waved away by the Addicks board or manager as Bowyer continues to fly high in the same division as the Potters.

If Bowyer was to leave The Valley for Stoke, then Charlton fans would more than likely see it as being a backward step to a club that's fighting relegation in the same league as them; to a club with a not-so-dissimilar sized fanbase and an equally talented squad.

One of the only reasons that Charlton fans will be worried about Stoke possibly approaching their manager is that Jones' predecessor Gary Rowett and current manager Jones haven't had heaps of experience before their time at the Bet365 stadium came around, something that former Stoke managers Tony Pulis and Mark Hughes had in abundance.

Stoke's board have recently looked to be going down the path of upcoming, Championship managers who could possibly turn a struggling club around, with Bowyer fitting that bill, but the Charlton Athletic manager could resist all temptation of trading a Playoff-chasing side for a side that's currently fighting a relegation battle with a squad devoid of all confidence. Charlton fans will just be hoping that all the speculation is over soon.
