Charlton have re-signed Jonny Williams, with the attacking midfielder agreeing an initial one-year deal with the Addicks as they return to the Championship.

The 25-year-old initially joined the Londoners in January and featured in 18 games as they won promotion to the second-tier, including an impressive 20 minute display from the bench at Wembley as they beat Sunderland in the play-off final.

And, even though he was released at the start of the summer, a deal was always going to be revisited and Charlton confirmed his signing on their official site.

Boss Lee Bowyer was delighted to have the playmaker on board and revealed that he had taken a significant pay cut to return to The Valley.

"I’m delighted to be able to get him back. Jonny, to be fair to him, has dropped his wage a hell of a lot to come here and I’m grateful to him for doing that and I think that just shows how much he enjoyed last season with us. Everyone made him feel welcome from the fans to the players. It’s a perfect fit."

The Verdict

As Bowyer says, Charlton seem like the perfect fit for Williams as they have given him a platform to perform and he has repaid them with strong displays.

The Wales international played a crucial role for the side as they won promotion and the fans love the way he plays.

So, the challenge for Williams now is to get up to speed in terms of fitness and break into the first-team ahead of what is going to be a tough year.

He has shown in the past that he has a lot of talent and he could be a key player for the side as they look to stay up.
