Charlton Athletic are closing in on a permanent move for Sheffield United defender Kean Bryan, according to The Sun's transfer centre (January 8).

Bryan has only managed to make four appearances since joining United from Manchester City in the summer of 2018, and it is now understood the Blades have allowed the centre-back to join the Addicks in the Championship.

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer will be desperate bolster his squad this month following a challenging first half of the season, and it now appears as though Bryan is heading to London to become his side's second signing of the window.

Bryan played the full 90 minutes for Sheffield United during their FA Cup success over AFC Fylde last weekend, but it now looks like he is preparing to join Aston Villa winger Andre Green in linking up with Bowyer's side this month.

The 23-year-old will be hoping for increased playing time at The Valley after struggling to establish himself with the Blades, and the number of injuries within the Charlton side means he looks set to make his Championship breakthrough this term.

The Verdict

Charlton supporters will be desperate to see their side add depth to the squad during the transfer window, so it will come as a relief to see the South London outfit getting some early business done this month.

Bryan has clearly endured a difficult time since making his permanent move to Sheffield United in 2018, and this means that Charlton fans will need to place their trust in Bowyer as well as the club's recruitment chief Steve Gallen.

The centre-back climbed through the Manchester City academy ranks before making his move to United, while the Premier League holders also chose to include a buy-back option in the deal, so there is clearly a talented player in there.
