Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has said that he expects forwards Lyle Taylor and Chuks Aneke to return for the trip to Middlesbrough this Saturday, with Jonny Williams also close to a full recovery from a knee injury.

Providing Aneke and Taylor don't suffer any further setbacks while in first-team training, Bowyer has stated they should be given the all clear, easing the current injury crisis at the club.

“Lyle was in on Saturday and he came through all that with no pain,” the Charlton boss told London News Online.

“Lyle and Chuks can’t start at [Middlesbrough]. They’d have to come off the bench to get some minutes and then some in the midweek game [at home to Huddersfield]."

29-year-old Taylor has been missing for the Addicks since the end of August, after suffering from a knee issue while on international duty representing Montserrat during September. Setbacks have not helped with his recovery.

Attacking midfielder Jonny Williams is also nearing a return from a knee injury sustained against Swansea in October, with Bowyer outlining that the Welshman could be back on the bench for Charlton's game against Hull City on December 13th.

Bowyer told London News Online that Williams is back out running on his own, but cannot afford to rush back into the team.

The Verdict

With an alarming 13 players sidelined for last Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at The Valley and only five substitutes named, this will be welcome news for Lee Bowyer, as players begin to return for the Addicks at a crucial time.

The striking prowess of Taylor has been missed, as well as Williams's assists, and the Charlton boss will keep his fingers crossed that further setbacks are avoided at all costs.
