A disappointing Charlton Athletic limped to a mid-table finish in Sky Bet League One last season, and fans are sure to be frustrated at their side’s lack of progress following relegation to the division the year before.

Manager Karl Robinson has a strong squad at his disposal, and it would appear that with a few quality additions this summer, the former MK Dons boss will have assembled a team capable of mounting a title challenge.

Defensively, Charlton were impressive in the previous campaign and conceded just 54 times in 46 league fixtures, the joint seventh best record in the division.

Robinson will look to improve on this record next season, and the addition of a quality centre half to marshall his back line will be high on the agenda of the 36-year-old.

In recent days, the Addicks have been linked with a move for free agent Jordan Turnbull, who impressed at Coventry despite their relegation to League Two.

The Southampton academy graduate linked up with the Sky Blues last summer after two successful loan spells with Swindon Town, but was released by the former Premier League side following their relegation.

Available on a free, interest is high in the 22-year-old, with Walsall, AFC Wimbledon, Bradford and Charlton reportedly considering a move for the youngster.

Robinson must move fast, and convince the 6”1 centre half that his future lies at The Valley.

Turnbull is a calm, assured defender, and could be the man to lead Robinson’s Addicks revolution next season.

The south London side will be up there at the end of the season, and Robinson should ensure that Turnbull is involved in his ambitious project.
