Charlton suffered their fourth straight defeat on Tuesday evening as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Huddersfield in stoppage time at The Valley.

Lee Bowyer's injury-hit side entered the match looking for their first win since the 3-0 success over Derby in mid-October, but Matthew Daly's late effort ensured Danny Cowley's side left with all three points against the Addicks.

The South London outfit have now dropped to 17th in the Championship table following a winless run of nine matches, with Bowyer seeing his side's significant injury crisis having severely affected their league form in recent weeks.

The Charlton boss has seen more than 10 first-team players sidelined after sustaining injury problems of late, with this figure including some of the club's most important players in the likes of Josh Cullen and Jonny Williams.

Williams has been absent for the full length of Charlton's winless streak - with the midfielder picking up his injury during the Derby victory in October - but it now appears he could be set to make his return to the squad in the Addicks' next match.

The 26-year-old has returned to first-team training this week after overcoming the worst of his injury, and Bowyer has now confirmed Williams is on track to play a part from the bench when Charlton face Hull on Friday evening.

BBC reporter Louis Mendez shared the news via his Twitter account after the match:

Williams had featured in all 12 of Charlton's league outings before he picked up his injury, while he has become a key player for the South London side since joining the club during their promotion effort last season.

The Verdict

It is clear to see that Charlton's poor run of results has come as a direct result of their significant injury troubles, so Bowyer will now be desperate to get many of his first-team players back fit prior to the busy festive period.

Williams has been one of the most missed players from the side given his creativity and ball-carrying ability from midfield, and his imminent comeback should provide a massive boost to the Addicks as they target their first win since October.

Bowyer's side have also recently been boosted by the return of star striker Lyle Taylor to the fold, despite the fact he is not yet ready to play from the start, and it appears things are finally starting to look up for the Addicks.
