Charlton Athletic have emerged as favourites to sign Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty, according to Glasgow Times.
The 24-year-old looked all but set to complete a loan-switch to League One side Sunderland, but for the Black Cats being unable to meet the wage demands set by Steven Gerrard's side.
Shrewsbury Town were also said to be in for the midfielder, but Lee Bowyer's side have become the strong favourites to take Docherty on-loan for the rest of the season.
It comes after Docherty has failed to break into Gerrard's first-team at Ibrox - a combination of injury and poor form means that he's not made a single appearance all season.
He spent last season on-loan with the Shrews - he played 41 times for the club and scored seven goals from midfield, being named the club's Player of the Year in the process.
They were keen to bring Docherty back for more of the same, but the Championship is said to be Docherty and Rangers' preferred destination.

Charlton are still struck with injuries. Although the list seems to be shortening (Charlton were at one point without 11 first-team players, and couldn't even fill their bench in a couple of Championship fixtures), Bowyer will always welcome added numbers.
They're yet to make a marquee signing since the completion of their takeover at the start of the month though, with the loan-acquisition of Andre Green being their only incoming transfer this window.
The verdict
Bowyer may start to feel a bit anxious with the end of the month nearing, and Charlton yet to do any real business.
Docherty would be a shrewd singing though - he was impressive for Shrewsbury last season, and would relish the chance to play in the Championship with Charlton, and prove to Gerrard that he deserves a starting spot in Scotland.
