Former Bolton goalkeeper, Ben Amos has emerged as a potential transfer target for newly-promoted, Charlton Athletic according to the London News Online.

Amos spent is a free agent after his contract with Bolton came to a conclusion at the end of last season, and will be keen to resolve his long-term future at the earliest of opportunities.

He spent last season on loan with Millwall, and made 12 appearances for Neil Harris' side as they narrowly avoided relegation into League One.

But his statistics don't make for good reading, with the shot-stopper having just one clean sheet to his name in his time at The Den.

The 29-year-old has previously been out on loan with the Addicks in the 2017/2018 season, and the club are seemingly keen to sign him ahead of next season.

Charlton recently secured the long-term future of manager, Lee Bowyer and he'll be keen to make new signings to adjust to life back in the Championship.

In an interview with South London Press, Bowyer revealed that Amos is one of the players that the club are attempting to sign, but his wages might prove to be a stumbling block.

"Ben is one of the ones we are trying to work on. But he was on a hell of a lot of money, so it’s just whether he is prepared to go down to what we are going to offer.

"We’re just trying to persuade him – he did a great job for us before."

The Verdict:

"There are better options out there for the Addicks.

"Amos wasn't anywhere near his best for Millwall last season in his loan spell, and I'm not sure he'd be a regular starter for Charlton if he was to sign for them.

"He kept just one clean sheet in the league for the Lions, which doesn't make for good reading at all.

"Is he much of an upgrade on Chris Maxwell? I think not."
