Charlton Athletic weigh up move for striker, door been left open to seal transfer

Charlton Athletic have made Norwich City’s Adam Idah their latest target this January, with the club looking to bring him in on a loan deal, according to London News Online.

The 18-year-old attracted attention this month when he netted a hat-trick in Norwich’s 4-2 win over Preston North End in the third round of the FA Cup at Deepdale. At the time, it was just his second match of the season for Norwich’s senior side.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international last featured in the Premier League for the Canaries in the heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United on January, starting the match for Norwich.

Daniel Farke’s side are back in action this Saturday against Burnley in the FA Cup fourth round, with Idah once again likely to get more minutes under his belt.

London News Online also report that Canaries boss Daniel Farke has left the door open with regards to a loan move for Idah.

With a week left of the transfer window, Charlton are in need of extra bodies in their squad, and Lee Bowyer will be hoping to get this one over the line.

Tomer Hemed came back into the team for Charlton in their last league game against Fulham, but Lyle Taylor is not yet fully match fit, with Macauley Bonne sidelined due to injury. It leaves a shortage of strikers at the club.

The Verdict

This news turned out to be an unexpected development at Charlton, but it could represent a good piece of business as Idah would have the chance to feature more regularly if he joins up with the Addicks.

The club have already had success this term with the loan signing Conor Gallagher, who also did not have much experience of senior football, but excelled at The Valley.

If Charlton are serious about their interest, a deal would most likely be able to be struck next week.
