Charlton Athletic have been dealt a summer transfer blow with the news Nill De Pauw has decided to join another club, reports HITC Sport.
De Pauw was said to be a major target for the Addicks this summer, as Belgian chairman Roland Duchatelet continues to recruit some of his homeland compatriots.
Reports earlier this summer suggested that Charlton were set to approach the player, who was then plying his trade for Belgian Pro League side Lokeren. The suggestion was that Charlton were set to trigger De Pauw’s release clause, which stood at £538,000.
The Charlton target has however decided to join French Ligue 1 side Guingamp, signing a four year deal at the club.
The announcement was made yesterday on the club’s official website that he had joined up with the French club, but did not announce how much they paid for the winger.
As Charlton have now missed out on the player, the club will have to act quite to secure any other targets as they build for a successful season next year.
