Charlton Athletic are closing in on sealing a temporary deal for Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, according to a report from the Evening Standard.

It is understood that the 19-year-old will join the Addicks on a season-long loan deal from the Premier League outfit.

Charlton are set to beat competition from the likes of Derby County, Cardiff City, Birmingham City, Lincoln City and Oxford United who were all believed to be keen on reaching an agreement with Palace for the winger.

Rak-Sakyi, who is set to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park which will extend his stay until 2025, completed a medical at Charlton this morning ahead of his move to The Valley.

Barring a late twist, Rak-Sakyi will become the Addicks' seventh signing of the current transfer window.

Charlton managed to secure the services of Jack Payne, Joe Wollacott, Mandela Egbo, Conor McGrandles and Eoghan O'Connell on permanent deals earlier this summer.

Steven Sessegnon meanwhile joined the club on a temporary basis from Fulham in July.

Rak-Sakyi could potentially make his debut for the Addicks in their clash with Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

Having recently secured victories over Derby County and Queens Park Rangers, Charlton will be confident in their ability to seal a positive result at Hillsborough.

The Verdict

This could turn out to be somewhat of a coup for Charlton if Rak-Sakyi is able to adapt to life in League One.

Whereas the winger only made two appearances for Palace in the top-flight last season, he excelled for the club's Under-23 side during this particular campaign.

In the 25 appearances that he made in the Premier League 2 Division 1, Rak-Sakyi managed to find the back of the net on 18 occasions whilst he also provided five assists for his team-mates.

By replicating these displays in a Charlton shirt over the course of the current term, the winger could potentially help the club launch a push for a top-six finish in League One.

Palace will be hoping that Rak-Sakyi will be able to make considerable strides in terms of his development by featuring on a regular basis for the Addicks in the third-tier.
