Charlton Athletic have sent a message of congratulations to Joe Gomez via their official Twitter feed, after the defender made his senior England debut in last night’s draw with Germany at Wembley.
Gomez, a product of Charlton’s academy, was initially named amongst Gareth Southgate’s substitutes, but a first-half injury to Phil Jones led to the Liverpool defender making his senior debut, as an inexperienced England side held on for a 0-0 draw against their old rivals.
The Addicks message to Gomez congratulating him was shared with a picture of the defender in action, along with a caption: “Made in Charlton.”

The 20-year-old made 24 appearances across all competitions for Charlton during the 2014/15 season, before completing a move to Anfield in the summer of 2015, costing Liverpool a reported £3.5m.
Gomez has gone on to make 14 Premier League appearances for the Reds, nine of which have come during the current campaign. The defender has also featured twice in the Champions League this season.
Whilst Gomez tests himself at international level, Charlton take a welcome break from action in Sky Bet League One this weekend, due to the international break.
This is a classy message from Charlton’s official account, who are clearly proud of the achievements of their former player.
Gomez has gone from strength-to-strength this season at Liverpool, and is fully deserving of his place in Southgate’s senior squad.
