It has emerged that Charlton Athletic aren't interested in Crewe Alexandra right-back Perry Ng.

The news was reported by South London Press' Richard Cawley on Twitter as he stated that the transfer rumour didn't have 'any substance'.

News emerged earlier in the week that the 23-year-old is of interest to other clubs in the Championship such as Birmingham City, Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.

The defender progressed through the youth ranks at Crewe and has gone on to become a regular at the club over the last few seasons.

He made his EFL debut during the 2015-2016 campaign following a loan spell with Hyde United in the previous season.

Ng has been the man wearing the armband at Crewe recently as he leads by example on the pitch.

He has made 159 appearances and scored five goals for his boyhood club as his performances have begun to attract interest from those higher up the football pyramid.

Charlton currently have some good experience in the right-back position with Adam Matthews and Chris Solly the first two options at The Valley.

The Verdict

The Addicks currently don't look like they need another right-back and they are right to not be interested in the defender.

Ng is a talented player who will likely be making the step up sooner rather than later but manager Lee Bowyer would be better off trying to improve other areas of the squad.

There are still a few clubs at Championship level eyeing up Ng's services and it isn't the end of the world if Charlton aren't interested.
