Charlton Athletic have been dealt a further blow on the injury front as it has been reported that on-loan midfielder Beram Kayal faces up to two months on the sidelines.

The news was reported by London News Online journalist Richard Cawley on Twitter, as he went on to say that the Israeli international may require an operation on his current injury problem.

Kayal is back with his parent club Brighton & Hove Albion to receive treatment for his issue, with Charlton boss Lee Bowyer stating that the injury suffered to the 31-year-old is more complex than he originally thought.

The midfielder returned to the fray against Millwall prior to the most recent international break, but suffered an additional setback in training at Sparrows Lane.

It adds on to Charlton's current injury crisis, which saw 13 players out for their last game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, with only five substitutes out of seven named on the bench.

Youngsters Alfie Doughty and Albie Morgan has been recalled from loan spells in the National League to help keep up the numbers for Lee Bowyer, and both featured last time out for the SE7 side.

Kayal has made six appearances in total for Charlton during his loan spell, which may face the option of being cut short by his parent club to aid his recovery.

The Verdict

This is bad news for Charlton once again, as it sees another squad player out of action for a sustained period of time. In this case, the prognosis is worse than first thought with Kayal's issue.

The loan spell has not worked for the player, and Bowyer has yet to see sign's of Kayal's true quality. This is a blow to all concerned.
