Three players have signed professional terms with Charlton Athletic for next season, as reported by their official site.

Kenneth Yao, Wassim Aouachria and Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu have all penned extensions to their current contracts, with Yao and Aouachria getting one year, whilst Sarpong-Wiredu has bagged a deal until 2021.

Of the three, Sarpong-Wiredu is the only one with first team experience. He's been involved in both EFL Cup and EFL Trophy matches this season, as well as appearing in the FA Cup against Mansfield and Doncaster.

He's spent time on loan at Bromley as well, and claims the senior football has made him a better player: “I want to kick on now and hopefully get into the team next season.

"Hopefully even in the next few weeks I can start to make a claim in training! I’d like to thank everyone at Bromley as well for giving me the chances to play at that level, I’ve come back a lot more mature and hopefully at the start of pre-season I’ll come back fit."

Yao and Aouachria will be hoping to find a loan placement next season to develop their senior experience as well.

Yao has been out with Dartford and spoke highly of his time there too: “I had a loan earlier on this season with Dartford which lasted a month and a half which was very good so next season I just have to see what happens and take it from there.”

Aouachria started his career with Marseille and has had to not only impress on the field, but settle in the UK following his arrival at the Valley.

The Verdict

Charlton have a good track record of bringing young players through, Karlan Grant is a testament to that. He enjoyed a good spell in the academy, then went out on loan before coming back a more rounded and complete player.

One of these might be the next big thing at Charlton and it's always heartening to see players make the jump to senior football after coming up through the youth set up.
