Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer has revealed his delight at signing a new contract with the club.

Having initially come through the youth ranks with the Addicks, the 23-year-old has now gone on to make 22 first-team appearances for the League One side.

After joining Gillingham on loan in the summer window, Maynard-Brewer was recalled by the Addicks in November after not making a single appearance, having suffered a dislocated should in pre-season.

Since his recovery, Maynard-Brewer has returned to Charlton's first-team and produced some standout performances, filling in for the injured Joe Wollacott.

As a result, with his previous contract having been due to expire at the end of this season, the goalkeeper has now been handed a new deal, that secures his future at The Valley until the summer of 2026.

Now it seems as though that is an agreement that Maynard-Brewer was certainly keen to get done.

Giving his reaction to confirmation of his new deal, the goalkeeper told Charlton's official website: "I’m really happy to sign on for the next three years.

"I’ve had some amazing experiences and met some great people involved in the club. Now, I want to continue to play games, progress and hopefully be a part of the successes of the club moving forward."

The Verdict

This does feel like a very good piece of business for Charlton to get done.

Maynard' Brewer's performances for the Addicks since he came into the side, do suggest that he has the ability to be a big asset in the long term.

As a result, it is sensible for the club to make sure that they are the ones who have secured his services for that period, and it will go down well among fans to see someone who has come through the system commit to the club.

Indeed, given it does seem as though Charlton may have a fair amount of work to do on their squad over the summer, the fact that they are getting these sort of deals agreed does provide some source of optimism ahead of the window.
