Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has opted against loaning out Macauley Bonne, according to South London Press journalist Richard Cawley.

The forward had reportedly been the subject of considerable interest from elsewhere but is now set to stay at The Valley for the foreseeable future.

Bonne, who joined the Addicks earlier this summer for an undisclosed fee from Leyton Orient (via BBC Sport), has struggled to make an impact for his new club.

Currently behind the likes of Lyle Taylor, Chuks Aneke and Tomer Hemed in the pecking order at Charlton, the forward has only managed to make two competitive appearances this season.

Bonne earned his move to the Addicks after firing in 23 goals for Orient as they won the Vanarama National League title earlier this year.

Whilst the Zimbabwe international will not be leaving Charlton, Bowyer may sanction the departures of Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu and Alfie Doughty in the coming hours.

Although this particular duo featured in Charlton's Carabao Cup first round defeat to Forest Green Rovers last month, they have both yet to make their Championship bows this season.

The Verdict

With the transfer window shutting later today for League One and League Two sides, it is somewhat of a surprise that Bowyer has decided to keep Bonne at The Valley.

Whilst the forward is unquestionably talented, there is a chance that his development could stagnate if he is forced to watch on from the sidelines over the coming months.

Therefore, in order to prevent this situation from arising, it is imperative that Bonne proves why he should be in contention for a starting role.

Although Charlton's next competitive fixture isn't until September 14th due to the international break, the forward will nevertheless be aiming to use the club's training sessions as a way of illustrating his wide of array of skills to Bowyer.
