Charlton Athletic are reportedly interested in signing former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder John Bostock to bolster their side following the departure of Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher was recalled by Chelsea earlier this week and sent back out on loan to the Addicks' second tier rivals Swansea City, leaving Lee Bowyer with more work to do in the January window.

The MailOnline have now reported that Nottingham Forest midfielder Bostock could be set for a move to The Valley after struggling to break into the Reds' first-team.

The 28-year-old signed for Sabri Lamouchi's side on a season-long loan back in the summer but has made just three appearances in the second-tier, increasing the likely hood that he could be on the move again.

QUIZ: Can you name the last 12 Charlton players to wear the No.10 shirt?

It will be a tough ask for whoever is brought in to replace Gallagher this month.

The 19-year-old was an ever-present in the middle of the park, putting in a host of tenacious displays and also popped up with six goals in the opening half of the campaign.

Elsewhere, the Addicks move for Peterborough United attacker Marcus Maddison appears to have stalled over personal terms with the player.

The verdict

I am anything but convinced that this would be a smart move for the club.

Gallagher's energy and tenacity in midfield were two of his best attributes, as well as his eye for goal, and I seriously doubt that a player like Bostock will be able to recreate those levels.

Bowyer is more than capable of getting the best out of players like that, but I think Charlton should be a bit more ambitious.
