Charlton Athletic are showing an interest in signing Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah on loan this summer, according to South London Press.

The Addicks gained promotion to the Championship last season following a dramatic 2-1 League One play-off final victory over Sunderland, and preparations for their second-tier return are well underway.

It was confirmed on Tuesday morning that manager Lee Bowyer has agreed a one-year contract extension with the club, just hours after it appeared he had left the club, and he appears to be intent on improving Charlton's striking options.

The club have already signed Macauley Bonne to boost their forward line ahead of next season, but they are reportedly also keen on securing the temporary services of Nketiah to provide further depth.

The 20-year-old enjoyed a prolific season for Arsenal's Under 23s season by scoring nine goals in ten appearances, while he scored his first Premier League goal against Burnley on the final day of the season.

This comes after Nketiah's Arsenal team-mate Krystian Bielik spent last season on loan with the Addicks, and he became an integral member of Bowyer's side on the path to promotion.

The Verdict

Nketiah's record suggests he clearly has a strong eye for goal, and he would be an excellent option for Bowyer to call on next season.

However, I think the fact Nketiah has already been involved in Arsenal's first-team set-up suggests the club may be looking to loan him to a more established Championship club next season.

He is a striker who the Gunners possibly see as being an important player in the future, and may feel hesitant in sending him to a club who could be involved in a relegation battle.
