Charlton Athletic continued their brilliant start to this Championship season by picking up an unlikely 2-2 draw away at promotion favourites Fulham, with goals from Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher and striker Macauley Bonne earning the Addicks a share of the spoils.

The result continued their strong early season form, with the Greenwich based outfit having lost just three of their opening eleven league games since returning to English football's second tier for the first time since being relegated to League One back in 2016.

Lee Bowyer's side have received plaudits for their attacking style of play that has focused heavily around the use of direct football which makes use of runs into the channels by the Addick's strikers to get the team up the field and start attacks.

The Addicks have been unlucky in recent games against the likes of Swansea and Birmingham City, with the game against the Swans condemning the south Londoners to an unfortunate 2-1 defeat at the Valley, which was a match in which Bowyer vented his frustrations at the performance of the match officials.

It is common for managers to do this, however it seems Bowyer may have crossed the line with his comments, with Sky Sports today reporting that the Addicks boss has been charged with improper conduct towards the match officials, with the article going on to state the following:

"It is alleged that Bowyer's language - both on the field and in the tunnel area at the end of the match - amounted to improper conduct and questioned the integrity of the match referee.

"Bowyer has now been charged with two breaches of FA Rule E3 and has until 6pm on Wednesday to respond."

The Verdict

Bowyer will no doubt feel frustrated about the charge that has been brought against him by the Football Association, particularly with Swansea seemingly getting away with conceding a penalty during the match, which is something that clearly incensed the former Leeds United midfielder.

However the Charlton boss should know better, particularly with plenty of other managers being pulled up for their comments towards match officials in the past few seasons, this will be a charge that he will just have to accept and move on from, as refereeing errors will be prone in games until VAR is introduced into the Football League.
