Luton made 23 appearances in all competitions for Luton last season, as they finished 19th in the Championship, after retaining their status as a club in the second-tier on the final day of the 2019/20 campaign.
But Shinnie is yet to make a league appearance for Luton Town this season, and has been restricted to just two EFL Cup appearances this term.
A move to Charlton Athletic could be a tempting proposition for the midfielder as well, with the Addicks looking to win promotion back into the Championship at the first time of asking.
Lee Bowyer’s side are currently sat 17th in the third-tier standings, and will be hoping to put together a positive run of results at the earliest of opportunities.
Charlton are next in action this weekend, when they take on Wigan Athletic, in what could potentially be a tricky test for the Addicks.

This could be a smart bit of business.
Shinnie has played at League One level before in his career, and played a key role for Luton Town when they won promotion into the Championship.
The midfielder isn’t going to be getting the game time he wants this season with the Hatters though, so it makes sense for him to head out on loan in this year’s campaign.
I think this is a solid signing by Lee Bowyer’s side if they reach an agreement with Luton, and it’ll provide them with much-needed depth in midfield.
