Charlton Athletic defender Eoghan O'Connell is poised to join big spending Wrexham in the National League.

The 27-year-old only joined the Addicks in the summer and he was a regular under former boss Ben Garner when fit, whilst he has continued to feature since Dean Holden came in, although only as a sub.

However, his short spell at The Valley is about to come to an end, as Football Insider have revealed that the National League side are in 'advanced talks' to sign the former Celtic youth player.

They state that there is confidence that a deal can be agreed before the 11pm deadline in what will be a major boost for Phil Parkinson.

The Welsh side lost two defenders to injury as they drew 3-3 with Sheffield United in the FA Cup over the weekend, so it has been an area that they were looking to strengthen before the deadline.

Wrexham are currently top of the league as they look to seal a return to the Football League this season.

The verdict

This would be more excellent business from Wrexham who have built a very talented squad thanks to the backing from their high-profile owners.

For O'Connell, he will see a club on the up and if he isn't going to be an important player under Holden then you can understand why he may be open to a move.

This is likely to depend on Charlton bringing someone in but they have been linked with Michael Hector so this could be one to watch in the coming hours.
