Charlton Athletic full-back Adam Matthews has had his say following the club's disappointing defeat to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday afternoon.

In front of a packed out Valley, Lee Bowyer's men were comfortably brushed aside 2-0 by Tony Mowbray and his troops reigniting concerns of an impending relegation battle.

But whilst Matthews has accepted the poor result, he also insists that dwelling on it for too long will not anybody any good either.

“You can’t get too down when you lose and too up when you win,” Matthews told London News Online after the game.

“You’re not going to win every game. They played the conditions well in the first half and turned us.

“We’ve got to get a good week in, prepare properly and hopefully play a lot better than Saturday. If we play the way we can, I’m sure we can get the win [against Luton].”

QUIZ: How much do you know about Charlton’s January signings?

John Buckley put the visitors in front on Saturday afternoon when his deflected effort found its way past Dillon Phillips in the Addicks goal before Tosin Adarabioyo made it two just eight minutes later, tapping home Stewart Downing's free-kick.

Charlton were the better side in the second half but could not find a way passed Christian Walton in the Rovers goal with Lyle Taylor and Josh Cullen both seeing shots saved.

The result leaves Charlton in 19th place and just six points above the relegation zone.

The verdict

I think Matthews is pretty much on the money with what he says here.

Too extreme emotions either way are almost certain to hinder a side rather than help it so the sooner Charlton are able to move on from this the better in my opinion.

Bouncing back is the best way to react to a defeat like this and they will need to. The pressure is only going to get more intense as the weeks tick by.
