According to HITC Sport, Charlton Athletic are planning a move for Gillingham’s Josh Wright this summer.

Karl Robinson is preparing for his first full season at the Valley, and is looking to bolster his Charlton squad ahead of a push for promotion in Sky Bet League One next year.

The 36-year-old has identified Wright as a target for Charlton, after the midfielder caught the eye for Gillingham last season in League One.

Wright made 47 appearances for the Gillingham across all competitions, scoring 14 goals for the club, including a hat-trick of penalties in March’s victory over Scunthorpe United.

The 27-year-old’s form was vital in helping Gillingham survive relegation to League Two, and his eight goals during the run-in helped the Gills finish the season 20th, one-point outside the relegation zone.

The Gills could now be dealt a blow this summer, with Charlton keen to take Wright away from the Priestfield Stadium and back to the Valley, where he began his career.

Robinson has already significantly strengthened his squad this summer, adding Billy Clarke and Mark Marshall from Bradford City – last season’s play-off finalists.

Perhaps Charlton’s best piece of business has been re-signing Ricky Holmes, who has agreed a new three-year deal at the Valley ahead of the 2017/18 campaign.
