Charlton Athletic confirm major off-field departure ahead of new season

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that Jason Euell has left the club after nearly ten years as a coach.

The former player, who made over 150 appearances for the Addicks during his playing days, returned as a coach in 2013 and has gone on to fill various roles overs the years, most recently as assistant manager.

However, his time at The Valley is over, as the club announced his departure following the change in management over the summer that saw Ben Garner named as Johnnie Jackson’s successor.

And, speaking to the club’s media, owner Thomas Sandgaard was full of praise for Euell for all the work he has done.

Jason is a Charlton legend and I would like to thank him for everything he has done for the club. He was an incredible player and since joining the club’s coaching staff in 2013 has given his all to help move the club forwards.

During my time at the club he helped us in our strong finish to the 2020/21 season and then played a role in the club’s form stablising after our challenging start to the 2021/22 campaign. Everyone at the club would like to wish him the very best for the future.”

Have Charlton Athletic won or lost more against each of these 25 English teams?

The verdict

This is a sad day for Charlton because Euell is a legend and the fans will echo Sandgaard’s words and appreciate all the former player has done for them during his time at the club.

So, to lose someone with that love for the club is a shame but you can also see why the decision was made as it’s only fair that Garner works with someone he knows and trusts.

Euell will surely be wishing the new man well and Garner can have no excuses now as he is going to be allowed to put his own mark on the club.
