Charlton Athletic manager Karl Robinson has commented on the rumours linking the Addicks with a swoop for Matt Godden.

Karl Robinson has denied that Charlton Athletic have made a bid for Matt Godden, the Charlton Athletic official Twitter account reports.

Stevenage striker Matt Godden is hot property after his free scoring 2016/17 campaign.

The former Scunthorpe United striker only joined Stevenage last summer after impressing for Ebbsfleet United in non-league.

The 26-year-old netted twenty goals in League Two in 37 starts.

He added one more goal in the Checkatrade Trophy.

This prolific goal scoring record has inevitably caught the attention of clubs in higher leagues.

Charlton Athletic are looking to bring in another striker to help add some firepower up front to mount a promotion challenge.

Godden had been noted as a target and rumours had started circulating suggesting that Charlton had launched a bid for the Stevenage marksman.

However, Robinson has confirmed that this is not the case.

But he did not rule out a bid in the future.

Speaking about Godden, Robinson added that "he's a very good player", suggesting that a bid may come in the future.

There is no bid on the table just yet from Charlton Athletic, though, and Matt Godden remains a Stevenage player for now.

The Verdict

Godden is just the type of player that Charlton Athletic need.

After plying his trade in non-league, Godden is hungry to grab goals in the Football League and show why he deserves his shot at that level.

If the Addicks had attacking options of Matt Godden, Tony Watt and Josh Magennis, they would surely be competing at the top of the division.
