Bury midfielder Stephen Dawson is wanted by four clubs this summer, according to HITC Sport.

A quartet of League One clubs have been alerted to Dawson's contract situation, where he has two years left to run on his current deal but has a clause which allows him to leave for free if Bury were relegated.

With Bury now heading to League Two, Bradford City, Charlton Athletic, Gillingham and Shrewsbury Town are hoping to capture the experienced midfielder on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old has vast experience in the lower leagues, having played for Mansfield Town, Leyton Orient, Barnsley, Rochdale, Scunthorpe United and two spells at Bury.

The former Republic of Ireland under-21 international only managed 14 games last season in an injury-ravaged campaign after rejoining the club last summer.

Dawson has been the subject of enquiries from the four League One sides as they ponder a move.

The Verdict

Dawson is a top player at League One level with his vast experience, no-nonsense approach and his energy in the centre of the park.

He has been well received by the fans at every club he has played at given his loyalty and commitment.

Shrewsbury have lost a key man in central midfielder in Abu Ogogo and Dawson would be an excellent replacement, while the other three teams could do with Dawson, even as a squad option.
