Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo is due to meet with manager Lee Bowyer on Friday when he plans to quit the club, according to the Standard.

The 22-year-old has been in talks with Rangers over a potential move, and the Addicks academy product is now expected to complete his move to the Ibrox giants ahead of rivals Celtic following his contract expiry.

Aribo was a key member of Charlton's side last season as the club secured promotion to the Championship, but Bowyer now appears to have failed in his attempts to convince him to extend his stay in at The Valley.

Charlton will reportedly receive a fee in the region of £250,000 for the midfielder's services, after Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet withdrew his contract offer to Aribo last summer.

The Camberwell-born talent scored 10 goals in 39 League One appearances last season, as he formed an effective midfield partnership with Arsenal loanee Krystian Bielik.

It is thought Bowyer remains hopeful of convincing Aribo to stay when the pair meet on Friday, as losing Aribo would represent a huge blow to Charlton after defender Patrick Bauer left the club on Wednesday morning to join Preston.

The Verdict

Earlier this week, Charlton fans were handed the excellent news that Bowyer has extended his contract at The Valley, but this has seemingly not had much of an effect on ensuring key players stay at the club.

Aribo's departure would be a major setback for Charlton, as it leaves them short in another position ahead of their much-anticipated Championship return.

The Addicks would have been hopeful of Aribo staying at the club following promotion, but he is at the stage of his career where money will be a driving factor in any move. It must also be said that this would be a real coup for Rangers if they can pull it off.
