Sky Bet Championship sides Charlton Athletic and Swansea City are in talks to sign Plymouth Argyle star Ruben Lameiras on a free transfer, according to reports from the Guardian.

The 24-year-old was one of few bright sparks for Argyle last season, scoring 12 goals and producing six assists for the Devon club, who were relegated to League Two after a bitterly disappointing campaign.

The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster's contract at Home Park is set to run out at the end of the month, with Charlton and Swansea believed to be in talks with the playmaker over a potential move this summer.

Swansea will be looking to add a creative player to their ranks this summer following the departure of Daniel James to Manchester United, and Steve Cooper, who is expected to take over from Graham Potter at the Liberty Stadium, could make Lameiras his first signing.

The Portuguese playmaker, whose move to French side Bordeaux fell through, is also believed to be in discussions with Charlton Athletic, who won promotion from League One via the play-offs last term.

Plymouth have already lost one key player in Graham Carey on a free transfer this summer, with the 30-year-old completing a surprise move to Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia.

The Verdict

Lamerias is a hugely talented player who would be a class signing for either team on a free transfer this summer.

He can play either out wide or behind the strikers and is a nightmare for opposition defences, and he is the type of player that both Charlton and Swansea are craving right now.

Swansea seem to be the frontrunners in the race to land his signature, and he would be a very useful option for Cooper next season, should he be appointed of course.
