Charlton and QPR are battling for the signature of Alberto Redondo, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The defender is a free agent after his contract with Getafe expired at the end of last season, and it is believed he is on the radar of the London clubs.

It is likely that he will go on trial prior to signing a contract, as he has made just three professional appearances, despite being 22-years-old.

Redondo operates as a left-back, and having already strengthened in that area through the signing of Lee Wallace it would be surprising if QPR made a move for him, although he could be loaned out if he signed.

The Addicks have likewise brought in Ben Purrington to fill a gap at left-back this season but could be eyeing up Redondo as a player for the future, and if he gets used to the division he could be a long-term option.

The Verdict

This would be a very surprising move for either club to make. They have each brought in experienced left-backs and that would suggest there isn't a place in the first-team for Redondo.

He has barely any minutes under his belt as a professional and that should be a worry. If he was to sign it is likely he would be loaned out. He needs match experience and needs to adapt to the English game, which he would be better suited adjusting to in the lower leagues.

It is likely he is being planned as a player for the future, and in that respect could be a good signing as he would cost little in terms of a transfer fee and wages.
