Charlton Athletic midfielder Albie Morgan has stated that he was pleased to make his first start of the season on Tuesday night, as his side lost 2-1 at Luton Town in the Championship.

The Rochester-born 19-year-old joined Ebbsfleet United on-loan last month but has since made an unexpected return to Charlton amidst their current injury crisis.

Manager Lee Bowyer has eight first-team players currently sidelined and has been forced to recall Morgan from his loan-spell with Ebbsfleet, and the midfield even bagged his first start of the season in Charlton's defeat at Kenilworth Road last night.

Here's was Morgan posted on his Instagram yesterday:

The away side had taken the lead within ten-minutes through Jonathan Leko, but Pelly Ruddock equalised for Luton midway through the first-half.

Graeme Jones' side then completed the comeback through Isaiah Brown, who scored his first goal of the season as Luton held on for a win which ended a run of five-straight defeats.

Charlton have fielded make-shift teams in recent weeks and have even been unable to fulfil their bench in the last few games. Times are hard for Bowyer right now but in Morgan he has a bright young player who wants to be back at the club, playing football.

The verdict

Charlton are now 17th in the Championship table and looking like they can't buy a win. They're now without one in six games and Bowyer will be desperate for some of his first-team players to return to action soon.

A defeat to struggling Luton will have disappointed Bowyer but he has another chance to rectify things on Saturday, when they host Garry Monk's Sheffield Wednesday.
