Charlton Athletic midfielder Conor Gallagher has spoken about his latest goal for the club since joining in the summer.

The Chelsea loanee opened the scoring against Fulham as the Addicks picked up another valuable point, with the match finishing 2-2 at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

And Gallagher has now talked the fans through his smart finish in an interview with the club's official website, praising teammate Macauley Bonne for his influence.

"A few minutes before that, Macauley said `when it comes in for me, don’t come in front of me, go in behind me’," he said.

"So it came to him, I ran in behind him, he flicked it on and it came straight to me.

"I played it out wide, saw it crossed in and headed it down, and we ended up scoring."

He was also full of praise for manager Lee Bowyer, revealing some of the advice given to him from his boss.

“He says to make it into the box every time and that’s how I’ve scored my goals this season.

"He’s great. I’ve only played under him for a couple of months now but I’ve loved it."

Ivan Cavaleiro levelled the scores for the home side in the second half before a looping Bonne header put the visitors back into the lead.

Aleksandar Mitrovic equalised again for Scott Parker's side but they could not take the lead, ensuring that Gallagher's fourth goal of the season helped secure another point.

The Addicks now sit in tenth place with 11 matches played and just two points off the play-off pace.

The verdicts

Gallagher has been absolutely excellent since arriving in the second tier and it is hard to deny he has been one of the second-tier's stand out performers.

Given Bowyer's prowess in a similar role during his playing days, it is no surprise to see that he has had a big influence on him as well, nor that the Addicks midfield unit as a whole has been so impressive.

The fans will now just be praying that his parent club do not opt to recall him any time soon.
