West Brom striker Charlie Austin has revealed that is enjoying operating alongside the Baggies’ other attacking players so far this campaign.

Albion have been prolific scorers so far this campaign, having registered 36 goals in 19 Championship matches, which is at least five more than any other side in the division, and that has been down to Slaven Bilic’s side finding goals from all over their squad.

Austin is more used to be being the main player tasked with scoring the goals in the previous sides he has played in, but he has more of a responsibility to link up with the likes of Grady Diangana, Matt Phillips and Matheus Pereira at the Hawthorns this term.

Speaking to the Express and Star, Austin explained how he is enjoying playing alongside the classy trio = even if that is leading to him getting fewer chances than he normally would in the attacking third.

"It's good. Sometimes as a forward it gets a bit frustrating because you make a couple of runs and the ball doesn’t come. That’s part and parcel of football and the luxury of having those players. They win you games of football.

"It’s a collective performance and we are a good team – it takes a lot to stop us."

The verdict

Austin found it a little difficult to adjust to life at The Hawthorns in the first few months of the season.

However, it seems that in the last few weeks that he has managed to find a way to adapt his own game to enable the likes of Diangana, Phillips and Pereira to perform, as well as still managing to be a threat himself, with the striker scoring three goals in his last three matches from the bench.

Hal Robson-Kanu’s ability to link up with West Brom’s other attacking players has seen him be preferred to Austin in the starting line-up over the last few weeks, but Bilic could look to rotate between the pair during the festive period.
