Charlie Austin has been reflecting on his time at Queens Park Rangers and has pinpointed the influence of manager Harry Redknapp.

The Berkshire-born striker enjoyed some of his most fruitful spells in west London under the tutelage of Redknapp, and managed to notch 18 goals in a Premier League season for the R's.

Speaking to the Oddscrackers podcast, Austin said: "Harry was very good at building confidence in me, when I come he said you will get us promoted, he said you're my striker and he put belief in me that I would score goals in the Premier League.

"I wanted to prove him right and prove a lot of people wrong, he built the team to play for me, I played up front with Bobby Zamora, he was great for me, he beat everyone up and just allowed me to score the goals.

Austin made over 80 appearances for the R's during his time at the club, scoring 45 goals before sealing a switch to Southampton in 2016.

The striker now plies his trade at Championship side West Brom and will be hoping he can fire them to promotion with the currently second in the table, with just nine games left to play.
