The wait goes on for football fixtures across the UK to get back underway, with the FA previously announcing that games won't resume until the 30th April at the earliest.

Championship side Reading are currently sat 14th in the second tier standings, and will be hoping they can build on some impressive recent showings when they return to action.

The Berkshire-based side beat Birmingham City 3-1 in their last match, which saw them move to within eight points of the play-off places with nine games in this year's campaign remaining.

One player that has played his part in their league campaign to date is experienced midfielder Charlie Adam, who has made 25 senior appearances in total for Mark Bowen's side.

The Scotsman has scored twice in his time with the club, with his goal against Fulham in particular standing out, as the Royals ran out 2-1 winners at Craven Cottage on New Year's Day.

Adam is out of contract at the end of the season with Reading though, and with the season being called to a temporary halt, it remains to be seen as to what the future holds for players whose contracts are set to expire in the summer.

Speaking in an interview with The Courier, Adam revealed that he would be willing to play on later into the summer if that was put in place by the relevant authorities in the near future.

"I’m out of contract at the end of May, but I’m willing to play in June, July to get the season finished.

"I understand that some players might want to protect themselves, younger players, or players who aren’t in the financial position to risk anything."

Reading's next game is due to be against play-off chasing Swansea City, although the scheduled return date could be pushed further back if the off-the-field crisis is to worsen in the coming weeks.

The Verdict:

It's good to hear that he's willing to play on.

I'll admit that I had my doubts as to whether he would be a good signing or not for Reading when he first signed for them, but his range of passing and experience has certainly added something to the Royals side.

He's become somewhat of a fans fans favourite in his time with the club so far, and I'm sure that plenty of the Madejski Stadium faithful will be keen to see him finish the season strongly under the management of Mark Bowen.
