Reading FC will be hoping that many pundits predictions are incorrect heading into the new Championship season, with many tipping them for relegation into League One.

TalkSPORT's Ian Abrahams is the latest person to predict that the Berkshire-based side will finish in the bottom three.

Reading midfielder, Charlie Adam was quick to notice the prediction, and certainly wasn't best pleased with what the reporter had to say.

Reading struggled to stay afloat in the Championship last season, but Jose Gomes managed to guide his side to safety in the penultimate game of their league season.

The club are struggling to spend much money in the summer transfer window, after previously being under a 'soft transfer ban' which has since been lifted.

But they looked hugely impressive in their final pre-season game against Frank Lampard's Chelsea at the weekend, and matched the Premier League side for much of the game, as they were narrowly defeated 4-3 by the Blues.

Adam arrived at Reading earlier  in the summer, and will be hoping to make his competitive debut for the Royals in their first league game of the season.

They host Sheffield Wednesday at the Madejski Stadium, where they'll be hoping to get off to the perfect start with an important three points.

The Verdict:

I couldn't disagree with Abrahams anymore.

He clearly hasn't seen Reading play under Jose Gomes, as they look like a completely different team to what they were under Jaap Stam and Paul Clement.

Gomes has got them playing some nice football, and I think they'll take a number of teams by surprise in the Championship this season.

They won't be anywhere near relegation trouble by the end of this year's league campaign in my opinion.
